the gryffindor Name: Jackie Heather Dawkins Born: October 25, 1958 Zodiac: Scorpio//Year of the Dog Jung Type: Extraverted iNtuitive Thinking Perceiving Year: Sixth Quidditch Position: Keeper Family: (adopted) Mother- Heather Marie Mason-Dawkins, Muggle book editor and lyricist. Father- Dennis Christian Dawkins, Muggle physicist and astronomer. Sister- Amber Marie Dawkins, Muggle, [book editor and writer], b.: 1960. Appearance: The first thing people generally notice about Jackie aren't her luscious red lips (which she doesn't have) nor her busty breasts (she's barely a B, for Merlin's sake). The first thing they notice is that her eyes, overshadowed by heavy eyelashes and eye-length bangs, are very dark. So dark, in fact, that it's almost impossible at times to tell that they're actually brown and not black. They also notice, while we're on the subject of eyes, that hers are incredibly expressive- generally they opt for a pensive, Sad-And-Tired look (people ask her all the time whether she's feeling alright or if she's sick- she's sworn a blood oath that the next person who does this, whomever he or she may be, is getting a swift kick to the groin or face, depending on the gender.). However, they do have other looks: the I'm-Brilliant look, the You're-Stupid look, the Oh-God-Will-This-Class-Never-End look, the I'm-Bordering-On-Being-Happy look, the I-Just-Did-Something-Awesome look, the May-You-Die-A-Death-Of-One-Thousand-Screams look, and, her second favorite to the Sad-And-Tired look: the I'm-A-Crazy-Psycho-And-I'm-Going-To-Kill-You-Now look. Just through her eyes alone, they can tell exactly what she's thinking. And they generally don't like it. If they were to step back and look at the larger view, they would notice that her face was too long (as are her neck and torso), her mouth much too small and slight, and her eyes too big and too set into her face for it. They would notice that her shoulders are just a bit too broad and slightly pulled forward. They would also notice the hint of Chinese in her- barely slanted eyes, broader face than normal, and bone straight black hair (though she never lets it sit like that- she always curls it or something). All in all, she has many unfavorable traits, but when blended together with her very pale skin and naturally not-fat (but not skeletal either) build, it creates a girl who's not half-bad looking. She'll never be the next Miss. United Kingdom, but she's not a hag either. Personality: Jackie is energetic and likes to be kept occupied- sitting around doing nothing doesn't sit with her very well. She wants to be out there, fighting. She doesn't wait for the trouble to come to her, she goes out and finds it and stops it from hitting too near to home. She's a free spirit and has issues with the idea of staying in one place for more than a month. Because of her flighty habits, it's almost impossible for her to be anything more than very friendly acquaintances- a relationship that requires nothing more than the occasional 'hello' and a game of poker every so often. As for romance, it's totally out of the question. Unless she were to find someone who matched her personality to a "T," Jackie views boyfriends and a ball and chain considering the time requirement. This person would have to give her her space, allow her to travel around AND be accepting of all her quirks while agreeing with her on everything, liking everything she likes, (but not copying her because that's annoying), and be relatively good looking. But, frankly, she prefers being by herself. Maturity wise, she's still a kid. She loves to just run around the countryside without telling anyone where she's going or what she's doing. She's reckless and willing to jump in to critical situations without more than a glance of thought (or less). She's very determined to have her way, and if she doesn't get it, she's prone to temper tantrums- storming off in anger or yelling at whomever crosses her path. Due to all the time she spends by herself, she's become a bit of a space case and is susceptible to tuning out of conversations to pursue her own train of thought. Jackie is a pessimistic optimist. She is always confident that things will turn out her way, but doubts it all the time so as not to "jinx" it. She likes to look pretty and wear pretty things, but often she doesn't bother to put it all together (makeup rarely even touches her face- it just sits in a pretty box looking pretty). She's impatient and gets bored with things very quickly, often going from excited and involved to listless and just looking for a way out in seconds. One day she'll be happy, bubbly, and outgoing and the next she'll be brooding, taciturn, and sullen. Little things annoy her and she lets it get to her- if she's hanging out with a bunch of people, many of whom are close friends, and there's only one person there that she doesn't like, she tends to obsess about that one person and will let their presence torment her. Often she'll distance herself from that group of friends just to stay away from that one person and ruin perfectly good relationships in doing so. She loves people and loves to talk, but at the same time she likes to have her space and her time to brood. She loves going out for only a few hours at a time and usually spends part of that time wishing it to be over so she can go home and dwell on the happy memories while enjoying a good book. She can't stand to see people hurt or being stepped upon and she will intervene if she thinks someone needs help. Generally, she's loud and opinionated and gets angry if she feels as though she's being ignored or looked down upon. Her respect and admiration are hard to come by as she sees people's flaws much more than their good side. She's naturally contradictory and will argue over things even if she doesn't believe what she's saying- she just likes knocking people off their high horses if they don't have a good reason for what they're saying. She thinks fairly highly of herself (but doesn't because she thinks that people who think highly of themselves are stupid, so therefore thinks highly of herself for not being one of these people), but not so with others and it's hard for her to connect with others on a more emotional and deeper level- she's liked more and she likes other people more in a light-hearted friendship way. She doesn't do romantic relationships very well -she'd rather be in something less serious- and, although she has a love of kids, she doesn't want any right now nor does she want the husband that generally comes along with them. She, as stated before, doesn't want to be tied down by anything. History: Once upon a time there was a half-Chinese Muggle girl and a not-quite-pureblood wizard in a bar in Scotland. And then they made the sexy (and a baby along with it) and the wizard did what wizards do- he vanished. The mother (she was only eighteen) then wanted nothing to do said baby and gave it up for adoption. The baby, a nameless girl called "13" for the whole week she was in the adoption facility, was taken to a small village in rural England by a mother whose uterus had been attacked by a nasty infection and a distracted father who thought as much about adopting the child as he did about buying his needy wife a diamond necklace. Actually, he thought less about it than the diamond necklace as the necklace cost him a good deal more at the time. After a while, he began to think about the baby a whole lot more as she began to cost him a good deal more than he was comfortable with. He considered giving her back, but he doubted the adoption facility had a return policy. However, she eventually grew on him a bit and he just didn't consider her anymore, which suited them both beautifully. And even had the decency to buy her a new baby sister (which, admittedly, was more for the mother than for her). The mother doted and loved the little girl, whom she called Jackie for all of a year until Jackie's feisty independence began to show through and the mother grew bored of her and begged her husband to get her a new one. A year later, he did. After that, Jackie was pretty much left to her own devices. Her father was too busy in his dealings with heavenly bodies and her mother was too occupied with her spoiled baby sister who was much more to her mother's liking- very attention needy. And blonde. Jackie wasn't bitter, though- she liked it better that way. She spent most of her childhood scampering about the English countryside, going off on her own little adventures with her imaginary friend Ivan (pronounced the Russian way: Eevahn. Stress on the "e" not the "a"), a blue-gray panther (he's imaginary, remember?) with the ability to fly and change sizes at will. Unfortunately, she outgrew him by the time she was six or seven. When she was around that age, her magic really started to make an appearance- she didn't break bones when she fell from trees and cuts and scrapes seemed to heal overnight. She didn't really notice it though (only amateurs break bones anyways). When she was nine, she perfected the art of playing hookie, and when she was ten, she filled out all the necessary applications to have herself permanently removed from the school system. Well, they called it 'home schooling,' but she didn't see the purpose of staying home if she was just going to have to do everything she did in school. So, for about a year, she had complete and total freedom. Her parents occasionally caught her at home when she wasn't supposed to be there, but they either didn't take notice or quickly bought her 'sick' story (*cough cough*) so she passed through those barriers without a problem. Two months before her eleventh birthday, a letter came borne by owl addressed to her from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Excited by the idea of a school of magic, she immediately tried to convince her parents to let her attend. Neither were impressed, thinking that it was just a hoax by the neighborhood bully or a scam Jackie made up herself to get a new costume. Upon hearing their refusal, Jackie threw a fit the like of which has not been seen since. Due to those same magical powers that had gotten her into the school in question, her anger made the house shake as though there was an earthquake and her screaming voice sounded more like a banshee than an almost-eleven year-old child. Her father, who (as seen) despises annoyances and distractions, caved almost immediately and took her to London, dropping her off with a distant relative (second cousin, actually) who had volunteered to take the girl to get whatever supplies she needed. He'd always been intrigued by the idea of witches anyways. Jackie had, of course, the presence of mind to mail her own letter back, asking where to go to buy her things, so at this point she had in her hands directions to the Leaky Cauldron. Upon arrival, she dragged the aforementioned second cousin out the door, straight to the London Underground and asked (as instructed by the headmaster) for a guide to Diagon Alley. She was taken around by a much too cheerful, fat witch and got an insane amount of stuff (much to her stingy father's dismay), including a gorgeous Russian Blue cat named (surprise) Ivan. One month later, she was on the Hogwarts Express, alone in her own compartment, happily pouring over her new books (skipping through it, actually- she wasn't going to read anything dry unless she had too) and playing with her cat (who was actually more interested in sleeping, but he humored her for a while). At the sorting feast, she was almost instantly placed in Gryffindor, much to her delight (in her opinion, if it’s mascot was a cat, it couldn’t be half bad). She fit in fairly well, and, though she didn’t make a million and one friends, she bonded with others in her year closer than she had ever bonded with anyone in her life. She still didn’t have anyone that she could consider a ‘best’ friend, but she was content with that- she never had needed anyone to get her out of a tight spot and good friends were too much work as far as she could tell. She liked her new life and settled in quickly. |
